About SoapBox

SoapBox Productions and Organizing is a film and social activism nonprofit specializing in multimedia storytelling for structural social change. We pair art and media with grassroots organizing efforts by developing, documenting, and promoting racial, economic, and social justice initiatives with community collaborators. Our mission is to utilize media to power and sustain social movements for a more equitable and creative world. We produce fiction films, documentaries, podcasts, written articles, and community-based programming centered around education, entertainment, and action. SoapBox fosters a radical imagination in creative context to deliver emotional impact storytelling with a liberatory, anti-oppressive framework. Our integrated multimedia format encourages broader access that caters to diverse audiences within the digital space and beyond.

Change the Dominant Narrative

Media-based Organizing

Our mission models media-based organizing, a collaborative process that uses media, art, or technology to address the roots of problems and advances holistic solutions towards a more just and creative world. Media-based organizing is a community-based process to investigate problems, envision solutions, and then work together to make them real (Allied Media Projects).

Film, Media, & Art

Storytelling is craft as old as time. SoapBox believes in showcasing authentic narratives before they are co-opted by corporate structures and sharing them widely and unapologetically. Through traditional fiction film, documentary pieces, and other supporting media, SoapBox delivers emotional impact storytelling in order to create empathy around stories that educate, agitate, transform and inspire. We achieve this by blending our years of knowledge, experience, and passion with professional-grade film production and new media technologies.

Systems Change

SoapBox organizes for structural social change by utilizing anti-capitalist analysis in planning and creating participatory, democratic structures to power social movements with community collaborators in shared struggle. We build power, document, promote, and participates in community actions and efforts for racial, economic, and social equity through a transformative and intersectional lens. Our work centers young people, especially Black people and other people of color while utilizing a liberatory and anti-oppression framework to dismantle systems of hierarchy and violence. SoapBox works towards radical, holistic solutions that offer viable pathways to systems change and liberation.
