We All Count in Illinois

The 2020 Census is a headcount done every ten years by the U.S. government and the Census Bureau that determines where resources go. It's how the government determines the amount of funding and political power communities receive. An accurate count is immensely important, particularly to vulnerable and disenfranchised groups that are historically undercounted, thus less resources and representation. Federal Law protects our privacy as census takers, including immigrants, refugees, and the undocumented.

The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) is dedicated to promoting the rights of immigrants and refugees to full and equal participation in the civic, cultural, social, and political life of our diverse society. With the novel coronavirus changing our everyday practices, ICIRR's Census Coordinators work to make sure everyone is counted in creative ways utilizing Facebook Lives events, Zoom calls, and caravan actions.

“Despite everything that's happened under the coronavirus, our nonprofits and the orgs that we support have gotten super crafty and creative about how we're going about getting the count out. Whether that means Facebook Live events, Instagram, caravanning, or calls via Zoom, the amount of effort that's being put into ensuring we get an accurate count is immense."
