Chicago Votes' #ChiYouthAwakening

They share their perspectives on policing and community safety, Chicago Public Schools, Black Lives Matter, and why they've chosen to get young people registered to vote and involved in political discourse.

Decarcerate Chicago |
December 10, 2014 -- Chicagoans put Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez on Trial for racist prosecution practices. The People's Lobby, SOUL and Organizing Catholics for Justice joined to demand that Anita Alvarez take action to reduce the number of people with non-violent convictions in Cook County Jail. For several months these organizations had been calling changes to her office’s prosecution and bail seeking practices that could drastically reduce the number of first time, non-violent offenders incarcerated in Cook County Jail. Despite several meetings with Alvarez, direct actions at her office and Freedom of Information Act requests, our Cook County State's Attorney refused to take any leadership on changing Cook County’s racist prosecution practices.
